Summary: This presentation consists of "telexamples," televised excerpts from a one-hour interview conducted by a medical student. The case presented is a hermaphrodite patient. The presentation illustrates behavior characteristics of a hermaphrodite as well as interview techniques used to draw out the feelings and impressions of the patient. The patient illustrated in this presentation is a man named "Lizzie" who displays gender confusion and verbalizes his uncertainty about himself. The patient describes family attitudes and sexual experiences which have contributed to his confusion. The discussion is largely focused on the patient’s early life and how it affected his behavior and his current feelings.
